1) Most OBs aren't paid hourly. The annual salary will range heavily in regards to the clinic, whether it's a private or public practice, the number of doctors, etc. Expect over $100K, but it will also involve being on-call.

2) A doctor will take 4 years of undergrad, 3 years of medical schools, and 5 years of residency. So before you get to make the money, you get to spend over $200K in tuition.

3) An OB/GYN will have appointments from 9 AM - 5 PM, though if there is an emergency surgery or no other doctors in the practice, the doctor will be required to be at the hospital for any birthing emergency.

4) An OB will work Mondays through Fridays, but babies aren't usually just born during the week.

An OBGYN will generally go to a 4-year college, probably (but not necessarily) majoring in a science topic like biology or anatomy. They will then go to medical school for four years, having two years of classes and two years of practicing (also called internship) under the supervision of more experienced doctors. Then they will do a residency. This residency usually lasts an additional four years.

An OBGYNs schedule varies a lot. Often they will have to be available at any time of the day or night in order to help with a delivery. If they work at a hospital they may have a more regular schedule, of 40+ hours a week, but doctors always have to be available to help patients if necessary. The starting salary for a new OBGYN will be around $165K/year, and they make more (generally) the more experience they have.

Hope this helps with your homework assignment:-)

I am not sure all the answers to your questions but i do know that it takes a long time in school and heaps of money in tution... but hey if that is what you want to do, don't let that discourage you. it will pay off in the end when you have a good paying, stable job.

I do know of some gyn that work long hours 6 days a week as there is a shortage of gyn in that area.. but they don't complain. They know its something that has to be done to help girls out

Here's a good article on what it takes to become an OB/GYN. To summarize, It takes 4 years of college, 4 years medical school, 4 years of residency, and sometimes more. During residency, you can expect to work up to 100 hours a week. http://home.cfl.rr.com/dahmd/train.htm

The average salary for an OBGYN is 228,000 per year (http://www.healthcare-trainingcenter.com/jobs-gynecology.asp) , but there are a lot of expenses (repay student loans, malpractice insurance)

Visit the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Outlook Handbook. There you can search for pretty much any career using their alphabetized index. It gives you all the information you need to know about any career, and then some...I promise it will answer all of your questions.

Here's the address to the site, just copy and paste into your address bar....

You'd have to go to medical school and it would take a long time.
