I have 1 2001 Saab 9-3 I had the A/C turned to 58 and n high and i had the speakers pretty high? After driving nearly 150 miles, thea strange smell begam to com through the A/C vents, and the engine compartment was releasing smoke. When I popped the hood, smoke was coming from the front left corner. I have no idea what has caused this, i only have 63K milage. Can anyone tell me what may be the cause of this and approximate costs asscoiated. Thanks in advance because i have no idea...

The engine overheated for some reason. Was it full of coolant? Did you notice the temp gauge rising?

The stereo had nothing to do with the problem. The AC unit could have caused the engine to rise in temp a little, but if you were driving, then the air should have been blowing on the radiator.

It's possible that the fan on the radiator was not working. Or even a sticking thermostat. Neither of these repairs are very expensive, so you could take the car in and get it fixed.

Was the car overheating, what did the temp gauge look like. Something is burning off or you have a coolant leak somewhere.

sounds like your heater core went. dont drive the car. wait till it is cool then check the antifreeze. a heater core is a big job and youl pay more in labor that for parts but your probably looking around $400 - $500.

could it have been electrical? is it a stock stero? was the smoke by the battery? is everything properly grounded? was it sweet sticky smell that would be coolant. whole new problem either way you need a good mechanic
