(why? )because you need help. This is coming from a person that still hates mathmatics by the way. I did the same way as you, only towards History.

Probably because you have more of an appreciation for it now. As you gain life experiences you start to realize how almost everything in our daily lives is a product of mathematics. I saw a show the other day that linked the concept of beauty to mathematics. They determined a mathematical ratio between different points on the face that was consistent with "beautiful" people. It's things like that that give me a greater appreciation for math.
Math is very important for me. I am a cell & molecular biology major, so I often use mathematical equations and functions in my lab. The greatest joy I get out of mathematics is being able to quantify experimental results myself, and not have to ely on others or a computer program. My greatest mathematical acheivement? Getting an A in College Calculus after being out of school for 12 years. I didn't use it, so I lost it, and had to do some serious studying to get it back =)

That is because you were REQUIRED to do it in school. Now that you are an adult you CHOOSE to do it. That's more fun when you thought of it on your own and the authority figures are not jamming it down your throat.
I personally hated ALGEBRA but now see its implications in computer programming and I totally get it now. Didn't before!
My greatest achievements were using math in computer programs. I've use algebraic notation, scientific notation, quadratic equations, trigonometry, etc. in my programs. My best was a distance calculator using a protractor, a map, and a computer. You would take a bearing to a distant building, walk or drive a short baseline (hopefully at a right angle to the target), and take another bearing to the same building. Using trig I used a parallax method to compute the distance of one side of my triangle with only 1 side and 2 angles.
I know land surveyors BEEN THERE DONE THAT already but it was fun doing it. I also designed a RDF (radio direction finder) triangulation computer program to track a hidden radio transmitter's exact location doing the similar parallax routine above.
I'm presently fooling around with cryptography using the Sieve of Eratosthenes, prime numbers, and factoring. Nothing serious just hobby playing...

Maybe because you get it now. That's me. And now my 10 year old son. He runs from math! It is my job to help him learn, but he refuses, saying he is too dumb to get it. I have not made a breakthrough with him yet. When I do, that will be my greatest achievement in Math.
Btw, I love how numbers work, and what you can do with them. It is magical in some way...

I love math. Always have. The greatest joy in math is the big Aha! When you finally break a tough problem. My favorite achievement in math is my work in cutting up the checkerboard.

Peoples views and likes/dislikes change over time, it's natural.
Mathematics is usefull to me, but just because it is doesn't mean i love it.
I don't have any achievements in it.
