For the past few months, my father has been bugging me about meeting a 22 yr. old woman in the Philippines. My father has been verbally abusive ever since he's been talking aboiut her. He wants me to marry her because she's a nurse and makes a lot of money. He said she's perfect for me and I don't know her very well and she's not my type.

Here is a list of what I have observed on my dad ever since my aunt told us about her:

-My father uses my email account to contact her
-FORCED me to write her emails against my authority
-FORCED me to send her text messages against my authority
-Threatens me if I refuse to marry her
-Asked my relatives and grandparents if I should marry her
-Told friends and relatives that I'll marry her
-Asked my grandmother if I had a fortune involving her
-FORCED to write a Bday card and mail it to her house
-FORCED to date her once we get to the Philippines
-FORCED to buy her a gift
-He can't stop talking/thinking about her

I have a question for you...how can you be FORCED to do anything? If you are an adult, tell him NO. If he gets abusive, stay away from him (get your own apartment/home, tell him to leave you alone). If he persists, tell him you will call the police to arrest him for harrassment! And do it. Maybe he is senile? Or just mean? Or drinks too much? Or is mentally ill? Maybe take him to a doctor and get him checked out. But live your own life!! Write that woman one more letter and tell her your dad forced you to do all that and you are not interested in marriage.

It sounds like your father is in love (or lust?) with this person. What would he gain from this union? You don't say how old you are but how has he "forced" you to do these things? If you are old enough to be married you are old enough to make decisions about who to marry and how to pursue a relationship, start exercising those rights. Tell your father no. If you live with him and he is making your life miserable, move (in with your mother, grandmother, any other friend or relative - they probably see how obsessive he is about this situation). I definitely would not be taking a trip to the Phillipines - you may not be coming back or worse - come back with a wife you don't want. Good luck and God Bless.

Are you American???? Change your E.mail. End of story.

Sweetie, are you an adult? Then your daddy can force you to do nothing. Write the lady another card, and tell her that you cannot, and will not marry her. If you still live with your father, either move out, or tell him that the subject is closed, you are marrying no one. End of story.

Father is either interested in the girl's money or he actually wants to be with her and uses you as an excuse!

How old are you man, he can't threaten you. If he likes her so much, he can be with her! I bet it is the second, he wants an affair by using you.

If you're old enough to get married, you're old enough to stop doing what your daddy tells you to. Why not stop this game and quit talking to your dad for a year.

How old are you? No one can force another to do all of that. You old enough to not go with him?

hmmm, if she's beautiful and you guys end up together...make sure to keep her from dad!! lol. But ultimately daddy can't make you love someone bro, you gotta decide that. Money don't make the girl. good luck!
