The US is the current world power. However, rumour has it that their oil is running out. China, now capitalist, will have the power to overrun the US before too long. The Russian federation is again growing in strength, they have plenty of oil, which they can only exploit by piping through Afghanistan! Iraq and Iran also have plenty. Can anybody see a theme developing here? Africa has the potential to become a world power, the West is actively preventing this, through its use of 'aid'. I see in years to come that there will be 4 world powers, with the US at the bottom. China is helping Africa.
I forgot about India, SORRY INDIA!!, perhaps the US will be at the bottom of a pile of 5.

Currently the US is the world most powerfull militarily and economicaly. There is future potential for Russia, India, and especialy China to surpass us in the future.
Contrary to the propaganda that was fed to us starting with Truman, and going all the way up to Reagan, the Russians never came very close to matching our military power. Even though their army was larger than ours, in terms of personel, a larger portion of them were conscripts. Their level of training was always a problem. They had more submarines, but most were WW2 diesel relics. They had more fighter planes, but that was achieved by keeping MiG 15's, 17's and 19's in service well into the '70's
Those are some examples.
The bigest threat to our military might is the cost of maintaining it, and a president who is borrowing from future generations to do it.

Russia is declining by birth rate, so I would replace Russia with Germany because of their industry, or even Japan being the second most advanced military in the world.
