I've been through the repair process for my xbox 360 several times. This most recent time, its been almost two weeks and I still don't have the coffin to send it back in. I'm starting to crack, and thinking about doing the previously unthinkable: buy, swap and return at Walmart or Best Buy. Has anyone done this and had a bad experience? I'm worried that the serial number on my 360 is registered to me since I've had it repaired so many times, and if Best Buy sends it back to Microsoft, they will connect it to me. They probably wouldn't even do anything, but still...any insights from those with experience?

I know some people find this topic morally reprehensible, but I am getting desperate and frustrated with Microsoft. I have also frequently requested new replacement units from Microsoft when I send mine in, and they say "Sorry, it's up to the repair people, who you can't contact in any way."

i have done this with an xbox 360 and got lucky. when i was returning the broken xbox the woman at the counter was going to check the serial number to make sure it matched but she ended up not doing it. i think if she did she wouldve been able to realize what I was doing.

I'm sure these stores are catching on to this scam and it might not work anymore.

Don't do it! As it can be traced back to you, Wal Mart can reasonably make a complaint to the police and you can be arrested for deception, theft and possibly fraud. The best way forward is to contact the store you originally bought it from and politely request that they replace the machine with a new one or you will sue the ar** off them If no luck, contact Microsoft and inform them that unless they resolve this issue, you will do a press release and contact every computer and games magazine producer and give them an article on the state of the 360 and why people should not buy one. Inform them that you will advise people to avoid the 360 and get a Playstation 3 as it is more reliable. That should be enough to get the Microsoft Customer Service Assistant bending over and offering everything on a plate. If they attempt to call your bluff, do a draft press release and E-Mail it to them giving them 24 hours to respond or else you will hit the send button. Guaranteed response within 30 minutes LOL

Well I have heard that the 360's are having alot of problems and actually I believe that Microsoft has just extended the warranty on them an extra 2 years or something. With how everything is now-a-days they probably do have your name connected with the serial number and all. Im not sure what kind of legal actions they can or will take against you for it but I believe it constitutes as Fraud which is a big one. You may want to rethink it and just deal with the annoyance of sending it in. hope you work it out

they'll examine the xbox and the serial huge form regrettably. in case you're able to do the "Towel Trick"(wrap your xbox up for 20 min in towels at a similar time because it fixes the crimson rings with the help of melting the solder returned on.) then you definitely would get it to artwork quickly and get greater commerce in fee. that's what I did and it worked. wish I helped.
