Is there a difference in the size of the two bedrooms? If there is, you might want to split the rent a little differently, but if they are basically the same size, then, splitting the rent 50/50 and the utilities in 1/3 seems fair to me.

I have to say that splitting the utilities in thirds is obviously fair. Now, I don't think you should split the rent 50/50 or in thirds. If the apartment was set up where the bedrooms were the same, I would say split 50/50. Because your roommate has a master bedroom (assuming it has a private bath), which is better than the room you are getting, maybe the rent should be 60/40. The fact that she is choosing to share her room with her boyfriend really doesn't factor into this decision. If you wanted to share your room with your boyfriend it should not be a problem for her. You were obviously willing to pay half the rent before you found out he was living there, and that is where you made the mistake. If the bedrooms are not the same, the rent should not be the same. If you can't work that out with them, I would find another place to live.

the question is do you want to live with the guy?
cause utilities in 3 way sounds fair and the master room does cost more. Therefore the rent should be divided a little differently, like 60-40 or something. They are the one that wants to share room, not you. If they don't want to, you get the master room and say 50-50.

You can split 40+30+30
or
30+30+30 and remaining 10 will be some adjustment
or
50+50 for room rent and all other accessories by the third fellow?

My best friend moved in with me and my boyfriend and we split everything in thirds so we all pay a portion and it is all equal it doesn't seem fair that they want you to pay half of the rent you should only be paying one third if you rent is $600(i am sure rent is more its just an example :)) it makes no since why you would have to pay
$300 alone while they get to each pay $150 you should really talk to your friend and her boy friend.

I would definetly split the rent 3 ways why should they get over on you . Better yet tell them you are moving your boyfriend in and see how they feel about that. Word of advice do not include this guys name on the lease if him and your friend break up that can cause lots of problems. But yes split everything up in 3's and create a living agreement that everyone should sign and have it notarized. JUST IN CASE.

If there are more than one person living in an apartment, that is the number of ways that the rent should be divided.
So 3 people means thirds.
Do you really want to listen to them in the master bedroom making noises at night?
Maybe you should get another roommate.
If you decide to stay and they insist on 50-50, then agree as long as you get the master bedroom. ;)

I would say thirds on everything. Maybe you guys can come up with a seperate agreement regarding groceries? If they are only going to pay half of the rent instead of 2/3, they can provide the groceries for the house?

I think its only fair if she pays a little extra for the master bedroom not one third. But the utilities in thirds is correct.

yes you are right...what do you think they would do if you move your boy friend in they would want him to pay also...that just means her boyfriend is paying a 1/3 of the electricity and that's it he is not helping with the rent at all...cause you and her were planing on 50/50 for everything before he came along....but if you don't stay there they will be paying it all so don't start off on the wrong foot....get it straight now before things get out of hand.
