Life is learning that you are not the only one. Look beyond yourself and learn from other people. Then teach what you have been taught. That my friend, is life. Good luck.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

Best question. Acoriding to the ancient Vedas We are eternal spirit souls, Part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, also known as Krisha, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. We never die, only this material body dies. This material world is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery, Only one fourth of the souls come here (The less intelligent one, (That's us) The rest are enjoying blissful, eteranal, loving relationships with our Maker named above. We have free will to either choose to love or not love God. This material world is for those who made the choice not to. But for those who have exhauseted all of their material desires and are seeking real happiness and eternal bliss, they will seek after the Absolute Truth, also named above. The path of self realization namely (Bhakti Yoga) is the way to come to full consciousness and realization of ones eternal spiritual realationship with the Creator. This begins with the chanting with the maha Mantra (the great mantra for deliverance from all suffering and illusion) If we fully take up this process, we will at the end of life retrun to the eternal Kingdom where their is no more repeated, birth, death, old age or disease. Otherwise what ever ones material attachments and desires are at the end of life they will get a suitabel materil body in thier next life and have to start all over again. Best to get out of this illusion. For info go to harekrishnatemple.com Read Bhagavad Gita as it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada- tells how asitis.com you can read on line. I love Bhaki.

Life. What is the Purpose of Life? Life....Life....Life. People have so many opinions on this. But here is mine:

Life is not just breathing and spending your days. It is not waiting for death. Life is not about regret.
Life is about living. And when I say living I do not mean just breathing and walking and talking. I mean living.

I mean yelling across a mountain top just to hear words echo back to you.
I mean spreading your arms, getting bare feet, and dancing in the rain.
I mean sitting at a horizon and watching a sunset and letting all your days worries just dive away with that sun.
I mean singing at the top of your lungs without worrying if you sound good or bad.
I mean just running at full speed just 'cause.
I mean giving a destitute even a penny just to see a smile on their face.
I mean putting a big inspirational grin from your heart on your face even through moments of depression.
I mean putting a smile on those faces that are filled with sadness or wet with tears.

So, my friend, what is life? Life is simply living. But living for this world. There is so much sadness, melancholy, hate, sorrow, pain, and agony in this world. It wouldn't hurt to just get up in the morning and put a smile on your face. And think....that today...today...I'll live for this world. Today I'll dance in the rain just 'cause. Today I'll sing in a crowd just 'cause. Today I'll say hello to everyone I see just 'cause. Just 'cause there is enough sadness in this world...and maybe, just maybe, if I can put a smile on my face and cheer someone else up...AKA live for this world....maybe, just maybe, There will be some...a little bit of less sadness and melancholy in this world. Maybe...Just Maybe.

There you go, that's my opinion. Life is living for this world and without a reason. Just living for this world....just 'cause. Just cause you want to lessen that sadness that weighs this world down.

I am wondering if this question is your own question as a young person, or whether it is a question you have to answer for you philosophy class. If it is for that class, I think that you will read many interpretations of life by famous authors and it will be good for you to consider them. My faith teaches me that the meaning or purpose of life is to know God and enjoy him forever, or to know, love and serve God.

As we go through life we think more about these questions and find our personal answers. As a woman, I feel that raising children is one of the great meaningful things we do in life, something that outlasts us. I wish that I had been guided earlier in life to think on this task and how I should do it well. No matter what else we do in life, if our chidlren turn out badly, there is a sense of failure and a disappointment that will not go away. Since not all my children finished college, I am hoping to live long enough to provide scholarships for other students to finish college, to carry on the tradition of the educated life that my children have not done.

Another conclusion that life has taught me is that love is the meaning of life. This is exactly the same as what the Bible teaches us about loving God with our whole heart, soul, mind and strength and loving our neighbor as ourself being the whole duty of man. But in life I learned it through experience. Without love, there is no meaning in life. You must love others and God for your life to have meaning and also you must know the love of God and others for life to have meaning and be worthwhile. In a Congressional hearing on National Health Care many years ago, doctors were called to testify as to what is the value of a human life. The best answer was, The value of a human life is to those who love that life and is immeasurable. If no one loves you, it is hard to get medical care that is effective. Now some doctors do love people, love their patients, but many do not. But beneath and above all of that, the value that we have as human beings comes from the knowledge that God made us for his own pleasure and that when we became lost in sin, He sent His only Son to die on the cross for our sins and to redeem us back to a loving relationship with himself. He has a purpose for us in this life and when we live for God's purpose and in a relationship with him, then we know the meaning of life.

Freeman Dyson once said...

"You ask: what is the meaning or purpose of life? I can only answer with another question: do you think we are wise enough to read God's mind?"
