I don't think 17" look stupid when carried around. Although, some might be a little heavy.

I like the 17" because lot of these models have a full keyboard.

Also, when you are viewing a web page or a document, you are going to having to scroll less on a 17" compared to a 15" since you will get to see more of page on the 17" screen.

Also you have a choice of getting a laptop backpack, and chances are nobody can tell whether you are carrying a 17" or a 15".

Hope that helps. Have a great day!

If your gonna get a 17 inch laptop then it should be to replace a desktop or because you have poor vision. They are big and bulky and today's sole purpose of laptops is mobility. Lightweight and sleek designs fuel an on going battle between companies. Bulk is something of the past and its evident that people want all the power they can get to fit in the palm of their hand ... just take a look at PDAs and phones.

No, in themselves 17" screened laptopsa do not look stupid, however in my opinion, the people carrying said large item around DO look slightly stupid. If you NEED a large screen, and NEED the same machine at home and work, why not buy a smaller, easier to carry laptop and 2 17" lcds to leave 1 at each end.

they dont look stupid although not practical

laptops come in 2 types, desktop replacement and ultralight.

desktop replacement are 17/19/22" screens they are meant to be put in place of a desktop.
Ultralight are small screens meant to travel.

There are many users that prefer to carry a desktop replacement over an ultralight due to performance and/or screen sizes.

if you are unable to figure out the difference then you should stick to a desktop. if you're that self-conscious about such a trivial thing, then you've got a hard life ahead of you.
