unfortunately washing machines are heavy because of the concrete blocks they have inside in order to stabilise them.
You are going to need a couple of strong men, but, depending on how handy you are, you could dismantle the concrete blocks.
Most machines have two screws at the back, top of the lid. Undo these (make sure you're not plugged in of course!) and slide the lid backwards. You'll need a spanner to undo the blocks, you'll see them on top. This should lighten the load considerably and won't take long to do. Best of luck!

I just wanted to add here that when washing down comforters one should look first at the "method" the comforter is put together with. Does it have long columns sewn in or squares, are they all sewn tight? If there are long columns, it will never come out of the dryer completely like it was before. If there are squares sewn in, this seems to be better. Also, one can only wash these in large capacity machines (like at a laundry-mat or most dry cleaners have them too). The VERY SMALL AMOUNT of soap you would use (about 1/2 cup of powder) should be added to the drum of the machine BEFORE adding the comforter. NO SOAP should be added to the machine except this. This will eliminate soap residue in the feathers at the end of the cycle. Also never use fabric softener either. Most dry cleaners will actually wash the item rather than put it in a solvent. They do it just as mentioned above. Dry in a large dryer on MEDIUM heat with about 8 tennis balls thrown in to the drum. It may take about 2 hours to completely dry and redistribute the feathers.

What! You are in a council flat and have this problem. Throw it over the balcony, everybody else does.
