Don't let people starve and make sure those who have made mistakes in their lives are given a second chance. Any suggestions for alternatives?

Well most ppl are some where in the middle and if you go vote and just check all Rep. or all Dem. then you need to find a diff. catagory to post on...now that thats out of the way. As of yesterday I was quoted $1100 a month for a family of 4 and $365 for just myself then factor in the things they wont cover come on now what average person can aford that? I am all for self acountabliety but when you push to send troops to Iraq( I've been twice) and they get their legs blown off shount the Gov. make sure they and their families are taken cair of? As far as cops go....A few months a go a cop was resonding to a call doing well over nindie MPH hit an old man in his truck and kill the 2 of them and injured is partner...then every wants to honor the cop??? and what was Ol' GW doing in the 60's and 70's?

The concept was written about first by...uh...Plato, in "The Republic" over 2000 years ago. Of course democracy was in a different form them and representatives were appointed, but were still successful and held in power via the support of the people. So basically he said the poorer will always have unrest over the richer and will exercise it via thier political voice, supporting the the candidates that give them the most. This will run the treasury dry, collapsing the government leading to anarchy, which from it will rise divisions, which from it will rise war, which from it will rise a dictatorship which from it will rise tyranny. He was right. Look at history, he was right.

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until [a majority of] the voters discover they can vote themselves largesse [gifts] from the public treasury. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy [taxing and spending], always followed by a dictatorship." - Professor Alexander (over 200 years ago)

Why stop there?
Why do I have to pay for YOUR kids to go to school?
Why do I have to pay to have YOUR street plowed?
Why do I have to pay to keep YOUR butt safe from fire or criminals?
Why don't you take some personal responsibility and take care of these things yourself?

The reason - it is for the COMMON GOOD of the public and a society is only as strong as its weakest citizens!

Besides - isn't this what your Jesus would want you to do for the least of YOUR bretheren?
Or is that just more BS from the evangelical right?

They don't think this, and your question is nothing more than a an exaggerated statement that verges on a rant in which repeats inaccurate, clichéd statements. Most states do not pay for abortions for poor women, and welfare reform was enacted in the 1990s. With 50 million people lacking health insurance, someone is going to have to do something. The insurance industry in its beneficence has not come forward with a plan to cover these people, so we will have to rely on government, like it or not.

Honey, it wasn't the hippies. Look at the White House and the history of past Presidents. You will find your answer.

Liberals understand how small is your world but in reality the world is huge.

It's the entitlement mentality, perpetuated by saint FDR himself.

Why should I have to lift a finger to do something when someone else can do it for me? I mean, I pay taxes, right?

Everything liberals do or say is wrapped up in a "Well maybe I just care about people more than you do" package which is total hogwash. You DO care more about people, but usually it's just yourself and what the government can do for you.

Oh, dear... You are sorely off base. This issue is not as black/white as you make it out to be. I am sorry our world is so much more complex than you are able to grasp.

I mean this in the most friendliest way, from one human being to another: please, do not drop out of school.
