A coward is someone who does not meet a challenge because he is afraid of the possible outcomes.

A brave person is one who is afraid of the possible outcomes of a challenge, but meets it anyway.

Foolhardiness is launching into a challenge while being completely ignorant of the possible outcomes it.

Someone who does not seek challenges but meets them when necessary is humble or modest.

A person who simply never challenges themselves is docile.

Cowardice is an overriding personality trait the causes you to deny what's important to you even though you know it's the right thing to do, but you won't do it because you're afraid of what people may think, persecution, etc.

Dropping two H-Bombs on 100,000s of civilians to end a war that you are losing. To enter Vietnam and rape and murder thousands of women and children, including lining up close to 100 women and young children, in a railway tunnel, then throwing grenades and shooting with machine guns until the screaming stops. Turning your back on your loved ones or allies. Stealing from and or lying to your loved ones or allies. Gossiping or bad mouthing your loved ones or allies.
When the time comes to stand up for your family, do it. Don't whine, cut and run, or try to sell them out.
