I consider them both pretty evil. Consider this, Stalin's mass killings were mostly before WW II (100,000 a year), and mostly from his purges and 'collectivization in early 30's with the latest estimate of around 20-30 million dead. His genocide wasn't a full time occupation to his death, unlike Hitler, but that's where the comparison stops. When comparing the two, both were evil, both put people in concentration camps, both committed genocide, both were dictators, both...well you get the picture. The one factor Hitler had over Stalin tho, Hitler was insane. Stalin was just angry and distrustful.
Other things to consider,Stalin killed more people, Hitler started WW II, Hitler killed the Jews and some people in his nation, but he started the war that resulted in many troops dying on both sides. Hitler may be considered the greater of both evils; tho Stalin killed more people it is said, Hitler's action ensured that those loses were as high as possible.
It is my conclusion that Hitler may be the 'evil-er" of them all, but comparing the them is ludicrous, now that i think about it, so just forget about it!

Stalin was an evil parnoid Russian with a Napoleon Complex because of this size.
He was determined to be the Russian head of state despite Lenin's desire that someone else be selected. Any person that got in Stalin's way was eliminated one way or the other.
Prior to WW2, he had most of his chief military officers executed resulting in the deaths of 20 million Russians.
He would use civilians and members of the military to clear land mines by walking through the minefield. He would also force them to the front lines even without weapons. Those that went forward were also killed by the thousands, and those that turned back were executed.
He was willing, and could care less, to allow the Germans to destroy his cities.
After the war he continued his barbarious crimes against his own people. At one time he had to make a choice-industrialize the Soviet Union, or reinvent his agricultural program. He chose industrialization which resulted into another 20 million deaths of his own people. Then there were the gulags and psychiatric hospitals where anti-Stalinist were sent and forgotten. Now that is just a taste of Stalin's behavior.
What Hitler did was as horrifying, and except for the Jews, most of his progoms were not directed against his own people. He was determined to wipe out his enemies, but he did not direct his killing instinct again the German people.
Killing your OWN people to me is worse. Stalin is responsible for the death of approximately 50 million of his people. That is cruely to the nth degree.

Stalin and the communists were much worse than Hitler and the Nazis.
Stalin was responsible for the deaths of 25 million people while Hitler was a nobody sitting in Landsburg am Lech prison.
Stalin reneged on Hitler after helping the Nazis start WWII, then Stalin was responsible for the Cold War after the end of WWII.
After WWII Stalin was responsible for millions of more deaths in his infamous gulags.
Stalin was a much more evil man than Hitler ever was.

To me, it was Stalin. Stalin imprisoned or killed his own out of fear and paranoia, and political reasons. If his men were captured by the Nazi's, he imprisoned or executed them upon their return. He fired his entire staff and replaced them with complete uneducated morons to help win the war.
People focus all too often upon Hitler and the Jews. Guaranteed it was indeed horrible, however Stalin went absolutely crazy on his own people more than anybody.

I'd say Stalin, not just because he killed far more than Hitler and his Nazis. He didn't admit to the crimes, and he killed his own people for a longer period than Hitler did. He made fewer reforms to the economy like Hitler did (before the Holocaust).

It is like asking what is worse strangulation or stabbing. Both were genocidal murderers, so both were equally bad. On a personal level, Stalin was probably more ruthless, as he had no problems killing longtime comrades if he supsected anything (which was all the time). He even left his own son a prisoner of war. Hitler killed one close friend, Roehm, and he hesitated at that but knew his rule was on the line. However, both were as bad as it gets.

Hitler, along with other facists of the time, was responsible for killing many millions of people worldwide. However, since it was war and except for the six million Jews he murdered, most could be written off as casualties of war. But Stalin murdered upward of 20 million of his own people. I vote for Stalin.
