Consider the similiarities: They both have a "special" group of people, and a force of evil growing within it. Along comes an uninitiated hero, who through many trials, proves himself worthy to not only join this special group, but to challenge the undefeated evil guy. And in both stories the hero and the villain have a unique connection: Harry's scar/wand, etc and the father-son connection...I rest my case

I'm not saying it's a bad thing, it's just something I noticed...and LotR is a bit different, as the hero persona is split into the uninitiated yet persevering component (Frodo), and the rightful leader/final battle component (Aragorn).

Just so that it's clear, Tom Riddle should be compred to Anakin, and Harry to Luke...it seems not everyone got that

They didn't rip off either Star Wars or Lord of the Rings for the Harry Potter story.

The story itself is the classic small-but-valiant group of good people led by a wracked-with-guilt "chosen one" take on the large-and-strong group of evil people led by a "dark master" who has no conscience. Good ultimately prevails over evil, and you could even argue is in the Bible to some degree, especially the part about the hero dying and then coming back from the dead.

The story is as old as storytelling itself. It works because, historically, good almost always triumphs over evil.

So, come donw from your fantasy cloud. Star Wars was not the progenitor of all story telling from 1977 forward.

Father son connection really doesn't have much to do with Harry Potter exept maybe his patronus.

I think Harry Potter series are more similar to Natzi Germany, than Star Wars. Pulling apart mudblood families, punishing the friends of mudbloods
Hilter-Voldermort, Natzis-Deatheaters?

A lot of comparissons can be made into a lot of things

I believe if the writers of Star Wars feel JK Rowling infringed on any copyrights they would have sought some kind of compensasion

Now if only Hermione were Harry's sister. You are generalizing a little bit here. Do you read a lot of fantasy? I do, and I write a little myself. There are (supposedly) only 3 basic storylines in all of fantasy (sorry, can't remember where I read that one), and in a lot of it you can pretty much figure out the basics of how it will end. With fantasy, it's not so much about the end as it is about the journey. So yes, I guess I would have to agree with you. However, I do not see it as a negative thing -- is that how you perceive it? Rather, that's just the way it is.

Well, sure they have similarities, but you could say that about so many different stories. The themes of good and evil, heroism, etc. are very common themes in books and movies. It doesn't necessarily mean one was modelled after the other, if that is what you're getting at. The two are similar in a very general way, but I wouldn't exactly "rest my case" if I were you.

hmmm, thought provoking.... The hero has a male and female companion and an animalistic (Hagrid/Chewbaca) one as well....

Look at the correlation between Pirates of the Caribean and Star Wars as well where both fathers (Vader and Bootstrap Bill) are evil until the end...

Kinda funny how the movie industry recycles the style that is tried and true...

i don't think that i would compare the two. they are so different. in star wars, anakin goes bad and harry doesn't. plus harry does not exactly prove he is worthy to join wizards because he is alreadt one. and harry and his father don't really have a special connection. all it is is that they pretty much look a like and their patronuses are the same.

Yes. It is a standard tale. It's called the Hero's Journey. There are thousands just like them!

it comes down to the basic: Good vs Evil plot. Does it really matter? As long as the story is good, it is fine to me.

Uh...I really don't see the similarities....I mean, what you just pointed out goes to other stories rather than Harry Potter....like LOtR, or POtC.
