I have a female blue gourami that has recently started resting on the bottom of the tank. It's dorsal fin is clamped down on its body, and its gills appear very red on the inside. I also have a male dwarf gourami and another smaller honey dwarf grourami in the tank, and they appear to be fine. Anybody know what could be wrong with the blue gourami? My chemical levels are good, and I do frequent water changes. If it is sick, is there any type of medication I can get for it?

I had my water checked at a local pet shop this afternoon. The pH is 6.9, and there is no ammonia and no nitrite.

I would suggest that this is ammonia poisoning. When you say that your levels are good, does that include ammonia? If so, then try having your water checks at a pet shop as well since sometimes test kits go bad.

Other than the potential for ammonia poisoning, you could have one of several different small parasites. Maricide would be my treatment of choice for any other them, so if it's not ammonia, try the Maricide.

The trouble here is that it doesn't sound like any real illness I might be able to identify. The behavior of staying in the corner and being more aggressive seems in line with being stressed. I can only suggest that you reorganize the tank decorations to make it less simple for the gourami to sit in the corner, but still be sure to offer it a quality place to hide if it wants that. A good water change, a basic addition of aquarium salt, and some tank redecoration are the best tips I can offer you at this point. Also, spend some time thinking if anything has changed in the past two weeks (temperature, water quality, more or less sunlight, etc.) Hopefully those things get him back to his normal self before too long!
