i bought the pc 10 months ago and due to my old pc which was still on its last legs i did not start using iot until may. then i realised that the hard drive was 80gb. when it actuallly should have been 200gb. i emailed the company and this is the reply they gave ;

If these machines do have 80Gb drives in them then all I can do is apologise at this time for the mistake. As these PCs were bought 10months ago it is not something we can swap for you.

If this mistake had been reported within 28ays of purchase then obviously you would have been covered by statutory rights, but please understand that after this length of time we cannot just swap components reported as incorrect.

We will help you out with any other issues as per your warranty''.

is there anything i cvan do about it?????

If you have previous documentation showing that it was supposed to be a 200gb hard drive and its only a 80gb then they are totally at fault, I recommend checkin the warranty info (most give you a year on the hardware), and file a complaint. They should replace it.

Legislation says that if the goods do not conform to the contract of sale at the time of delivery (goods which do not conform to the contract of sale at any time within the period of six months starting with the date on which the goods were delivered to the buyer must be taken not to have so conformed at that date) the buyer has the right to require the seller to repair or replace the goods, or to require the seller to reduce the purchase price of the goods to the buyer by an appropriate amount, or to rescind the contract with regard to the goods in question.
You've gone way beyond what either the law or common sense would expect the vendor to comply with, I'm afraid.

It's not a warranty problem, that deals with defects not wrong goods.

I am sure that when you purchase an item it must do what it says on the label. If it was advertised as 200gb and purchased as such, the fact that you have only just started to use it is not the issue. Most items have a built in one year warranty What did it say on the box and on your receipt?
If you can establish that you were mislead the cheapest approach would be to take the matter to the small claims court for replacement or money back. It will cost you, but they might resolve the issue before you attend.

Erm, have you checked that it IS only an 80G drive ?
If you right click My Computer, select manage and go into "Local Disk Management" you ncan see the hard drive and see it's "physical" capacity.

it could be Windows lives on an 80G partition of the drive and either you have a 2nd hard drive letter (usually be D) or they simply forgot to partition and format the remaining 120G

If it's the latter, Click START / HELP and search for PARTITION to get Windows to talk you through doing it (Creating and Formatting a partition that is)

About the only thing you can do is to buy a 120 gb hard drive this will give you 200gb. Always check your wings before you fly you could crash.

Hi
Check with a solicitor, the first half hour is free or alternatively see someone from the Citizens Advice Bureau (all advice is free), I seem to remember that under certain circumstances statutory rights can go back six years. Seek professional advice though.

Surely you can get them under Trades Description Act. The machine must be still under its 12 months warranty. If you've got the receipt still, I would go in and demand refund, replacement or some sort of satisfaction. They're probably hoping you'll just go away, but if you stick to your guns you should get somewhere.

Link to the UK Sales of Goods Act.

Not going to read it for you, but hopefully it will help.
