McCanns: If you had something to hide would you make so much effort to keep the story in the news?

The conspiracy theorists might argue they have been making a big deal of trying to find Maddy to hide their guilt, but isn't it well past that stage now?

They have admitted to leaving their children alone to go and eat and socialise, that's a big crime in my book. It is not conspiracy, it is neglect and they seem to be getting way to much pleasure from the attention they are getting personally.
EDIT Sorry quickbrownfox, but to leave them once may be considered a mistake, but they did it on a regular basis.

I don't think it quite works like that.

It's enough for me that there is no evidence before us (as members of the public, I mean) to support the ridiculous speculation and accusations that are flying around.

I don't believe, Qwikbrownfox, that anyone has said they were "wonderful" parents. I don't know if they were or not. I just don't believe that they have done anything to earn the loathing that is dished out by the McCann bashers.

I mean, there is a whole narrative that has been worked out that the "antis" use to justify each leap of fantasy and fabrication that is founded on absolutely nothing. There is not a shred of evidence that Gerry McCann is a control-freak who never lets Kate speak for herself and yet this appears to be taken as read among the McCann haters.

I keep saying this but all this garbage speaks volumes about the haters but says nothing at all about Kate and Gerry McCann. And it says nothing about and does nothing for Madeleine.

They're strategists. Attack is often the best form of defence. Besides which they've got so used to being in the news, considering themselves celebrities, they're probably thinking of moving to LA and setting up home next to Posh and Becks and Tom Cruise and Kate! Can u imagine? But of course, the twins would be left in Portugal in the creche so they could pop back, on one of the frequent trips round the world, to see them.

Qwickbrownfo, I'm not sure whether I would have used the words silly mistake and definitely not perfect parents, even if the conspiracy theories are all wrong, they were still bad parents for leaving three children in a hotel room while they socialised.

When the funding and the charity events stop, that's when the Mccanns will stop. I've been thinking though, maybe it's not both of them we should be suspicious about, has anyone seen Man of Fire with Denzil Washington?

I believe they were given a rough ride by the American media for leaving her alone at all. Which I thought was something missing from the British media reporting.

Some of us think they are wonderful parents who made a silly mistake

Some of us think they were neglectful and selfish and are guilt riddled now that its blown up in their faces and all this PR is their way of salving their guilt


But whatever our views I think we all agree that we hope Maddy is found, dead or alive, so there can be some ending to this tragic story.
