A good place to start is with this website:
http://www.writing.com

It's for writers of every type, aspiring or professional and it has lots of tips about writing, recommendations for good books on the subject, and lots more.

Other sites for writers that I've seen recommended but I haven't explored yet are:

http://www.writing-world.com
http://www.greatwriting.co.uk

Also, there's a *mountain* of books about how to write novels, short stories, and just about anything else for publication. Some of these specialise in science fiction. Just google on some relevant keywords like [book how to write]

Hope this helps. Good luck.

The vast majority of the greatest writers in the world have always been the most avid readers, as it is virtually training. Just make sure you read enough of a cross section of books, to allow your own style to develop

you could try them self help books but i usually need someone to explain things. check out your local area. there might be some english writing classes going on. if not then drop into a university/college and ask to speak to the professor who teaches literature or any writing course. or you could email people like authors or professors. good luck and happy writing =D
