I have read some responses here that think that if we leave Iraq, that AMERICA will live under Sharia law. Mind you, congress would have to approve this...are you someone who believes that western culture as we know it will crumble if we leave Iraq? It would help me to understand the irrationality behind this war. Thanks

To build on Brian2412's point, I find it both astonishing and sad that there are Americans who don't even seem to know the character of their own country, nor it's history (cultural as well as political). It's called AmCiv - American Civilization - and it's a whole field of interdisciplinary study.

Any self-respecting American should have a profound sense of it - yet so very many on this board do not, and worse yet, they don't care to. They're happier dwelling in the negative, castigating the motives of fellow Americans, not even having the foundation of faith in our country that would mandate - first, foremost, and above all - that Americans COME TOGETHER when there are threats and challenges (at least in post-bellum America). Yet this seems to be the LAST instinct, not the first one, for a lot of those here on Yahoo! Answers .

Some of those answering this very question don't even understand the question. You aren't asking "WILL you convert?" - you're asking how anybody can be so without faith in, and knowledge of, the United States that they would actually think that forcible Muslim conversion could be a conceivable outcome to leaving Iraq. And it's people from BOTH sides who are misconstruing you.

This is sad.

Wetern governments are cowering to Muslims in fear of a backlash. Look at what is going on in the UK. I don't think I will ever be forced to wear a sheet over my head. But I do think that we may allow our culture and practices to take a backseat to the culture and practices of Islam in an attempt to be politically correct (what BS!).

No I am not afraid. Why? B/c I'll be damned if I have to kneel to pray, or give up alcohol! Its not gonna happen, and I think there are a lot of us that are willing to take up arms to protect our rights. That is not what people fear if we leave Iraq. People fear that if we leave Iraq in its present condition, that we would have created a terrorist state, where they can launch attacks and train. Plus, why would we leave Iraq now, if we will be forced to go back in the future?

Muslims constitute 0.5% of the American population. Buddhists constitute 1%.

Perhaps we're more likely to become a Buddhist nation - and would that be a bad thing ?

Not really a valid argument is it. But...making Americans afraid is how republicans get elected so we can expect a whole lot more of this in the coming months.

Yeah, right. That's the second dumbest reason I've heard so far for staying in Iraq.

Do you think Ben Ladin and other terrorists are going to run for congress and try to pass legislation to change how we live? NO! He wants to destroy us, not become a part of America. That is where the military comes in. To protect the people from it's enemies who are tring to destroy our way of life because we have freedoms that they don't agree with.

We might not be a mulsim nation but if we leave terrorist can plan attack on us from there and when we get hit we'll have to go back in a finish putting in a friendly government. I perferr we do this now instead of after we are hit again. Remember 9-11. It was planned from a lawless country. One like the one we would leave behind.

They'll have to go to the whole biblical length of cutting my head off before I convert to Islam.

I guess some conservatives have little faith in their own ability to maintain their Christianity.
