Shamus MacIntosh , a Scottish policeman was assigned as security to a recent soccer match pitting 2 teams whose particular fans and countrymen were known for hostilities . He kissed his wife good-bye and told her he'd be home after the game (usually about 3 hours later) . Well his favorite team won so he called his wife to tell her, and just as he and his fans and countrymen were celebrating , a riot broke out . Yeah , it seems that the losing team's countrymen didn't like that and some others were there only to start trouble . Hours later the fighting was still hot and heavy , and when his wife called him angry as bee , he had to explain that things had changed and therefore he could not leave until things settled down . She didn't want her husband to get hurt , but it was his duty and responsibility to finish his security detail completely .
Reluctantly , his wife agreed because she loves him .
Hmmmm , she loves him and understood !!

I guess I should've clarified that 'our country' meant the USA .
And as long as we're on the topic , can I get a U-S-A. . U-S-A. . U-S-A. . U-S-A. . U-S-A. .. U-S-A. . U-S-A. . U-S-A. .

To those who think this wasn't a good analogy I say this . . . . . I was appealing to people who comprehend 'Love and Understanding' . If this doesn't apply to you , then you would neither 'love' or understand' the analogy .

HEIDI - I played 18 seasons of soccer . I know how long a game lasts . The 3 hours was how long he'd be gone . I suggest you read my above comment as it is directed at folks like you .

Note : Simple analogies are used to help understand bigger issues all the time . It's quite common for teachers , professors , and scholars to describe complicated matters using simple analogies to allow others to grasp the entire concept and begins the road to understanding . Thank you for reminding me about the whole 'casting pearls to swine' analogy .

That is a very good question. It seems like the answer is that they love their own power more than they love this country. They certainly can't get anything done in Congress and this country is suffering because of it. Sealing our borders is a perfect example because it will protect us and our country, but they refuse to do what's right. Didn't they approve several billion dollars for building a 700 mile fence last year, and at last report, only 2 miles have been built. This just proves the point that government is not the solution to all of our problems.

Is this a two part question with, perhaps, the second part providing some explanation of what the hell point you're not making?
Iraq won the Asian Cup.

It's not really confusing. I just don't know many soccer matches that use a car bomb for sporting equipment.

Well, your analogy provides great understanding of how our current administration governs. Something like a group of arrogant, condescending turds.

I love my country enough that I would never compare people losing their lives in a war to a soccer game. To use your analogy though, all the security in the world will not help if the people continue to hate each other. they will just continue the fight as soon as the security is gone.

Yes, we love the United States. That was a really lame analogy, by the way.

We do, but we know that the riot will end, not like a shooting war that goes on and on and on.

I am afraid that your story doesn;t really work well to blame the liberals for the iraqi situation

sports analogies are a sure sign of not much real to offer about politics

So, his OWN country was being attacked? And this relates to the Iraq war how?
Love and understanding versus logic and truth? Are you SURE you aren't a liberal? Here's a test for you...do you support Bush and all of his policies? Than you are a liberal...a big fat one. You might want to find another word...'liberal' has been taken!

How does this relate to liberals?

And of course they love this country. Just because they disagree with you politically doesn't mean you have to question their patriotism.

This is part of why I don't listen much to conservatives anymore.
