Because there are still many cliched high school stereotypes to roll out yet. There are nerds to laugh at, jocks to wish you were, cheerleaders to wish you could and some cheesy songs to do stupid dance routines too. OMG!

because everyone that watches disney channel was all excited for the first one, and when it came out, people were like "oh, that's a pretty good movie..."
then disney channel, seeing that it was a success, decided to make a SECOND high school musical.
(of course, it'll suck, because sequals are always worse than the first)
they're firing millions of commercials and even a frikin road to high school musical so everyone is sure that this'll be the movie of the year, which it most likely will not be.
it's just a way for disney channel to get more money and more fans and for zac and vanessa to get more famous.

It is meant to be for young kids, they love it. I personally think that it's a bit silly so that's why I did not watch either movies.

its your opinion that high schoo musical is idiotic but some pple actually like it as i am one of them. but somethng ur right about is there is a little too much singing other then that everything is just right!
