HURT -- We are so concerned about not offending a person that we aren't concerned about what is RIGHT!

Actually, it helps us.

What it does is, it makes us think of alternative adjectives to describe certain situations and it helps diffuse volatile language that could exacerbate an otherwise already unpleasant situation.

It does not eliminate the words that we would rather use and we still reserve the right to think those words even while we state the situation in a more diplomatic manner. Of course, we all know that as soon as we believe the mic is off or that no one is listening, we will still articulate our emotions using the juicier, spicier language. The problem with the juicier, spicier language is that we tend to overuse it to the point that it becomes much too abstract. We might use one word starting with F as an adjective, noun, or verb. We can actually write a sentence with just that one word and listeners will actually pretend to understand what is being said.

By being politically correct, we are challenged to be more specific. We are challenged to think. We actually exercise our brain and give it a chance to stretch. But we all know what we will mean. Language is fun.

Political correctness hurts us.

Politicians gaining votes by speaking against their intentions are denying the US citizens the truth and therefore causing votes on false premises.

When politicians promise to support an issue prior to election, they should be held accountable as this is in effect an oath to the US citizens. To do the opposite should be a crime of perjury and cause for removal from the elected office.

On a personal level, I was always taught that if you can't say something nice about a person, don't say anything at all. It has been one of the best pieces of advice my mother ever gave me.

I think people take political correctness to far. I think it was an attempt to keep people "polite". There is a manner that people should speak to others, and as the years go by it gets more and more relaxed. I think people SHOULD be more conscience of how they speak to others, I don't think we should be so relaxed that we openly offend or insult people by being crude or rude. Political correctness is a check and balence in that, for instance it tries to correct stereotypes, sexism, racism...etc. Is that a bad thing? There is something to be said about being tactful, you can still be honest without being down right offending and rude....and then the offensive people get mad because political correctness tries to limit their "freedom of speech"... Freedom of speech used in that mannner allows others to show the world how truely ignorant they are. So , I think it attempts to help us, do I think it is applied in a manner that does? not always.

Politcal Correctness does nothing except create more racism throughout the U.S.

It generally applies to the white males not being able to say anything while others can virtually say what they feel without the threat of a reprimand.

It hurts.

Political Correctness is speech that minimizes hurting people.

So you're asking whether it hurts us to not hurt people?

What an odd question.

I think it hurts us. Alot of stuff like that hurts us. When we have to start tip toeing around someone to be politicly correct we are in a way being racist by thinking we cant say a certain word or comment around someone because they are say black. or prejudice against someone by not being able to make a fat joke in front of a fat person.
