I'm beginning to get more into reading and I was wondering what are some great authors or books I should pick up at the book store.
I love novels.
Gothic novels, anything as long as it can "boost my intelligence".
thanks<3

By the way, I'm still only 15 so, please try not to refer anything too explicit for my innocent mind.
hahaha.

I love novels, and I'm fifteen, so hopefully these similarities will allow my suggestions to be even better.
Here are some of my favorite novels:
The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
1984 by George Orwell
Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut
My two favorite authours are John Steinbeck and Kurt Vonnegut.
I hope this helps!

Alot of the Sci Fi Fantasy books are great these days, as you read the first few chapters of some, you get the feeling they are ripping off other people's stuff, but overall, there are some great books out there. It'd be a shame to single out one or two authors and leave anyone out in the cold. Skim over the backs of the paperbacks and find the stories that interest you. Other people might not hold the same interests as you. intelligence grows as your own opinion grows and expands. I'm trying to write a 20 novel long series myself.

The Gravesavers By Sheree Fitch. Here's what it says on the back of the book:
The school year is over and, in the wake of a family upheaval, 12 year old Minn Hotchkiss is packed off by her parents to spend the summer with her sour grandmother in the seaside village of Boulder Basin. But Minn's feisty temperament and wild imagination help her deal with these less-than exciting summer prospects.
It isn't long before she finds herself caught up in a mystery that reaches back more than a century. Haunted by the aftermath of the most tragic shipwreck in Maritime history before the Titanic, Minn vows to take action to preserve the eroding graves of those lost at sea.
Over the course of this extraordinary summer,Minn will discover romance, and learn that the grandmother she resented is more intriguing than she ever guessed. She might even meet a famous rock star!
When Minn comes up with a clever but risky plan to save the graves, it could be that this time she's gone too far. Even Minn is unprepared for the shocking events she unleashes. In the end, much depends upon her finding the courage to face the terrible secret that she has locked in her heart for so long.
This book is a novel, and it's one of the best books I've ever read. It has 316 pages. I recommend this book for anyone who loves reading. It's a great book.

Like many others I just finished book 7 Deathly Hallows. I want to read some Holly Lisle. She sounds like a good fantasy writer. I have just read exerpts from some of Holly Lisle books like Talyn. They seem like they would make good movies and keep the reader coming back for more. I am a "read the book then see the movie" type person , lol

The End of the Pier, by Martha Grimes. This is the story of a 12-year-old girl who has a great deal of freedom in a small town. Even better, she has a very active imagination and manages to conjure up a real honest-to-goodness mystery.
