I love emotional and intellectual stuff. Books that just sway around dont interest me too much. Too much melodrama is a big turn off for me....
Novels should be rivetting and thought prvovoking.
Thouhh i dont mind reading other stuff as well, but such books are not what I like.

All kinds. I have just finished HP7 -- Deathly Hallows, but I've also recently read, Elmer Gantry, We the Living, Wicked, a Mickey Spillane crime novel, The Secret Life of the Pink Carnation (don't bother), and Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas

Lee Child's Jack Reacher series!
I read all 11 of em including the one that just came out this summer.... I found them in May and read em all they were so well written .... and now I have to wait for like a year til he writes another one
I hate when that happens!
BTW Jack Reacher is a big ex army mp drifter who always gets into dangerous situations but uses his brain to get out of em
Since I already read of all of Louis L'amour long ago now I started reading sci fi with Ben Bova's Mars and just finished Jupiter.
Oh yeah and my wife got a hold of my Lee Child books and loves em

Mainly crime mysteries/thrillers like James Patterson, John Sandford, etc. I've read virtually everything by Stephen King and I've read all the Harry Potter books. I've read all of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan books and I've read some Dean Koontz. I've also read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings many times each.
I've also read some classics and I do read the occasional non-fiction.

well i'll read anything that has relatable and understand the character.
a beautiful plot line can be completely ruined by two dimensional characters.
that's why a fantasy book with good characters always has my attention.
i don't really like pure romance novels though.
i like my romance a little more mixed in with other genres because it makes it a little more subtle, interesting, and real.

something thats a mix of all of them. I prefer sci-fi or fantasy that includes some romance, some intrigue, some insightful monologues, a smattering of humour etc.
I think most outstanding books are a mix of more than one genre!
