the chaos theory states that in a scientific system a small change in input (like a decimal point being rounded) will result in catastrophic affects in the output. In other words a small change will result in huge changes in a scientific or mathematical system. its like if you round a number and then use that rounded number to make new calculations, the more calculations you do the farther you are off (even if it is the 25th or 100th decimal place rounded). It simply is trying to say that things are unpredicatable, not necessarily random but follow chain paths we can not comprehend.
A perfect example is whether and how our forecasts drop by 90% in accuracy after 48 hours. This is because there are so many factors when dealign with weather that we have no way to be able to tell what is going to happen over a long period of time. Think about one wind shift and a thunderstorm turns into a hurricane or vice versa, it is very complicated and extremely UNPREDICTABLE,
Hope this helps

Instead of repeating what others said, here's an easy way to think about it. Chaos is a complex system that is made up of a multitude of simple parts that work together in an unpredictable way.
Think how the world may have changed if there was one second in Hitler's life where instead of pausing, he stepped into a street and got killed by a car. That single second would have changed all sorts of events in history. If you were alive in the 1930's, standing next to Hitler and you had the choice of pushing him into the street or holding him back, you could not have possibly predicted the outcome of your decision. That's chaos.

It's the theory behind chaotic systems. Things like the weather, or ecosystems, are dependant on a multitude of parameters, billions and billions of them. A really tiny change to one of them can have far reaching effects which are impossible to predict. The example you often see is that of a butterfly beating it's wings. This creates tiny turbulances in the air which, according to chaos theory, could possibly begin a chain of events in the atmosphere that results in a tornado on the other side of the world.

Kind of brings fourth the detination of an atomic bomb, or maby even a particle accelerator, in an atomic bomb one atom is riped in 2 unisecular pieces causing a small brawl then ripping all the other attoms apart ripping about 1 trillion atoms until the actual explosion all happening in about 1 millionith of a second and the explosion can be the climax of total chaos
