I don't think there is anything inexpensive in New England. You can try Hyannis, MA. Great little town. The shore strating from MA down to NC is pretty expensive this time of year. Maybe you can try VA beach. Great beaches and the water is so warm.

Hampton Beach, NH - lots of lodging and dining choices, good for people watching. Sorta white trashish.

Old Orchard Beach, ME - similar to Hampton Beach, but smaller and the water will be colder.

Narragansett, RI - much quieter than either HB or OOB, water will be warmer still. No night life.

Try Rockport Mass. they have alot of b&b's that aren't that expensive. It's a georgeous town with lots of great views. You can also take the train to so many other cool places like Salem.
