Depression affects not only how we think, but also our immune system, our sleep patterns and the natural processes the body and mind use to stay in good physical and mental order.
Depression Like Life Is Cyclical
Getting caught in a depression cycle is equivalent to being the conductor on a toy train set. Round and round, you just keep chugging along the same preset track. Over and over, you keep repeating the same self-defeating cycle. The ONLY way to break this chain of events is to RECOGNIZE that they are happening to you.
There are various causes for depression. There are deep problems one should seek the advice of a professional for. Childhood abuse, whether it is sexual, mental, or physical is a VERY common deep-seated depression issue. If you have these issues in your background, there is very little else that will help defeat the depression cycle within yourself more than seeking the advice of a professional. Childhood abuse issues are valid reasons for depression. Until the web in your head has been de-tangled, and the emotional pain is dealt with, your cycle may continue for a lifetime. You must address the injustice within your heart and head, to be free of depression, if that is indeed the root cause for it.
So you have depression and cannot put your finger on the cause of it… This is another common problem I hear. To break a cycle of depression, you first must recognize this cycle.
Identify your cyclical patter through keeping a diary for at least a month. This diary does not have to be your deepest feelings or anything that is too personal. Simply a monthly calendar will suffice for this.
Each day, rate your day, and write one significant feeling you have that day. Rate the day on a pre-set scale that you make yourself. An example of this would be a 1-5 scale. 1 Meaning a very low down, rotten, depressed, crying, awful day. 5 Meaning Great day, wish all days could be like this, wonderful, life is great!
It is best to keep this simple, so that you will stick to the plan and will be able to go back and reflect on what was happening each day. You WILL see a pattern emerge.
Already I know some of you are tuning out… again it is because when you are depressed, it’s easier to tune out, than to do work toward the ending of the cycle.
Don’t do it.
Take a baby step here and keep a diary of your feelings or lack of them, it will help. You may also want to keep track, in the same journal or calendar, of what you eat, how much you sleep, or whether you self-medicated by using alcohol or drugs. (Another common problem during depression)

I don't think you can break it permanently. I feel that a certain amount of what we call depression, is a normal emotion. The thing is not to let it control you. Face it, deal with it, and learn to manage it. That's what I do. I have taken anti depressants, and it really didn't work for me. I'm not saying I'm against meds, but only that depression is a very personalized emotion.

Dealing With Depression
Almost everyone feels depressed at one time or another. There are many things you can to do to deal with depression. You are not alone; there are plenty of other people out there who are dealing with depression. Often times, people have not realized they are suffering from depression. The first step to dealing with depression is establishing the fact that you are suffering from depression.
A few ways to deal with depression is to build structure into each day. Set small goals and stick to them. Make sure you incorporate something fun into each day, either an activity or by treating yourself. It is very important to keep active. Exercise usually elevates moods. Eat a balanced nutritious meal. Allow yourself to experience your feelings; if you have to cry then do so. If you are angry then express it in a safe manner. Holding back emotions can build up and resurface in negative ways. If you need additional assistance in dealing with depression, consult with a mental health professional in your area.
Tips for Dealing with a Depressed Person
Never tell a depressed person you know how he/she feels. This may make the person angry with you.
Let the person know you are concerned about them and want to help.
Always be supportive and patient.
It is important to encourage the individual to seek professional help if symptoms persist and affect the person's daily life.
Many choose alternative therapies, which include meditation and relaxation, exercise, acupuncture, and herbal agents, such as St. John's Wort.
Try Växa's homeopathic medicinal Deprex to help deal with mild to moderate depression. Deprex is a scientifically advanced cerebral homeopathic medicinal designed to provide relief from mild depression and depressive disorders, including mood changes, mood imbalances and melancholy, and/or extended periods of simple sadness and grief.
The complex of natural "antidepressants" and nutrients in Deprex is much more powerful than one ingredient by itself because it not only supplies the precursors to these key mood-controlling neurotransmitters, but also the additional nutrients needed by the body to naturally:
Help elevate mood by raising circulating Serotonin levels and assuring proper utilization
Help restore the appropriate production of Serotonin and Norepinephrine
Help diminish anxiety by regulating Cortisol release
Help restore clear sentient thinking and appropriate reality testing
Help calm and diminish oversensitivity
Three major neurotransmitters (Serotonin, Dopamine and Norepinephrine) in the brain must be in balance for a balanced mood. When in an unbalanced state with each other, mood drops or depresses. Medication alone can make a difference; however, someone suffering from depression should also seek counseling.
