Loved and lost. I once loved a guy but, for reasons I won't mention in this answer, we didn't "hook up". Even to this day, 28 years later, I still think of him fondly. My life would never have been the same if I hadn't met him. Sadly, he died about 9 years ago so "lost" is now a permanent word for our relationship but I'm so glad that we had our time together.

I think after the pain of "lost" goes away, it's better to have loved. That feeling when you're first falling in love is great, and each breakup can at least lead to that,
Or if you don't find another person it can be bad because you do know what it feels like to be loved and not feeling that anymore is really hard. Oh noes, I sound so emo.

I would rather love, lose and know they are suffering alone in a pit of dispair than never have loved at all.
