It seems like they don't want us to find out what our government is up to - the real reasons for the war in Iraq, the minutes of Cheney's secret energy meetings, the perjury of Scooter Libby, the lies of Alberto Gonzales, the refusal of so many other adminstration officials to testify before Congress, even when they're facing contempt citations - what do you think is behind it? We used to have an "open government."

I realize that we classify certain information for national defense purposes - that's not the question here. When the administration started using RNC email accounts to discuss their business, it wasn't because the GOP email has better security - it was to circumvent the Presidential Records Act.

Everything!

What makes it even more abomidable, is that they don't have to hide from their citizens, if they would just be truthful with us to start with!!!!

They say they stand behind their every choice with a 100% conviction and "no doubt whatsoever" that they did the right thing. Okay, then why so much cover-up? Why would our VP declare himself OUTSIDE the executive branch of Government? I'm sorry, WHAT??!!?? Which branch would you be in? The "I'm not really here, so pay no attention to the man behind the curtain"-branch of government??

It's hard to even find where this trend of "Commit gov agencies and taxpayer dollars to a bad idea, defend bad idea when everyone can see it's a bad idea, cover-up anything that would give away that we had some inkling it was a bad idea before we committed to it, lie about covering-up bad idea, and repeat with each bad idea brought to light, no matter how much juggling of lies that requires"
And as much as one would wanna blame the posterboy for defending bad ideas (dubya), it SO is not just him, the layers of corruption run for miles...
How any of them remain in office is baffling!!

How have they continued to make impeachment sound like the plan of the fanatic/fringe??

I guess somewhere someone is making lots of money...

A quick summary.

Iraq war - Each administration keeps much of war planning and conduct secret. This is routine.

The minutes of Cheney's secret energy meetings - what for? I know there is an all-out effort to smear the administration with any innuendo possible, but come on.

the perjury of Scooter Libby - The records of this trial are available.

the lies of Alberto Gonzales - Same here.

Overall, a thinking person should notice that hundreds of wild claims have amounted in very few real convictions on their own basis.

The 'crime' Libby was grilled about has never resulted in any charge on its own basis. The 'crime' Gonzales is being grilled about has not and will not result in any charge on its own basis. If you are grilled long enough about a routine day at work a year ago, I can assure you that you will eventually get some detail wrong.

Think about what it means that nobody was convicted on the basis of firings, pardons or the supposed 'outing' of Plame. These were not crimes, but they sure got people upset at the Bush administration.

Is nobody else offended that Congress is diddling around with the American people under the guise of pursuing justice?

pondering the reality that GW planned and performed the WTC/9-11 attack to offer him a reason for war in Iraq, i could say there are a number of things he can do. He could desire to nuke a small city and blame "terrorists", declare martial regulation and make himself dictator. think of it may no longer take place? examine German history around 1933. Hitler did it by using burning the Reichstag. i could positioned no longer something previous the Bush/Cheney duumvirate. they are the two loopy with potential and could do in spite of the Israelis tell them to do.

We will never have an "open government." Presidents have hidden things from us all the way back to the revolutionary war. Bush has hidden all that you've cited and more. Clinton hid his dealings with the Chinese as they toured our nuclear facilities as well as his knowledge of a dead body that turned up early on in his presidency. Bush Sr. hid is true initial dealings with Sadam Hussein that led to the initial conflict....etc.
If we had an "open government" the citizenry simply couldn't handle all that truth. Besides...aren't there some things that you just don't wanna know?

They are hiding the fact that they have nothing to hide. There is no secret plan because there is no plan at all. Just corporate cronieism, policy based entirely on politics, and old vendettas (Iraq) by tired old men--but that's all plain to see. They've got nothing else.

Hiding? Hah! Anything they can't temporize. And that seems to be a lot.
Did somebody open Pandora's box?

I would say they are not hiding enough, I cant wait till someone is sentenced to death for disclosing information that the public doesnt need to know. I think that WWII would have never been won by us with the freedom of information act and the media today. Some news outlet would have to have the "Breaking News" ---"Build Up for Invasion"-NORMANDY

My belief is that there are some things that the public shouldn't know, i.e. secrets that are in the national interest.

As to your other assertions, there just that, assertions based upon your political agenda.
