Are they pretty big drawn out affairs?

If it is a full mass, then yes. If it's not, then no. My recommendation is to :

1. Wear knee pads under your pants. There's a ton of kneeling.

2. Slip a little wine into the communion jug.

3. Plead ignorance and scream out a couple of "Hallaluyah....... Amen!" s out every so often and claim you thought they were Baptist.

4. Don't scream "FIRE" when the holy smoke is spread.

5.Don't ask the priest if he's ever been married before.

Follow these suggestions and you ought to do just fine.

It depends on how you define a "big drawn out affair."

A Catholic wedding with a full Mass can last 1 1/2 hours if there is a lot of music. The the reception can last late into the night.

But that is nothing compare to weddings in India which last for days.

With love in Christ.

I think almost all of the weddings I've been to have been Catholic. It's not that their all "drawn out affairs" the ceremony part (church) is just depends on the couple.

Now, Italians do it best, Catholic (most of the time) ceremony, lavish receptions.

Depends on the couple and their families really.

It depends on whether or not a full mass ceremony is held. My niece just got married a couple of months ago in a Catholic ceremony, but it didn't include mass so I didn't think it lasted any longer than a regular Christian ceremony. But I've been to a couple of Catholic weddings that did include the mass, and I thought they would NEVER end! For about 2 hours it was "stand up, sit down, stand up, sit down" etc. The bridal party even had chairs! I guess at least the bride really gets her money's worth (or the parents get their money's worth) in that case! LOL!

Yes. If it's a traditional catholic wedding, you're looking at about 1 1/2 or 2 hours. Very long.

Yea, I have been to a Catholic wedding and there is an hour long mass. That is about it . Then the reception. It is not as long as people think it is. Just because they are catholic and they have to have to bishop there to introduce them into society. Hope this helped.

The priest in one of our Catholic churches says it's his church and no flowers allowed, there's better ways to spend the money,,,don't think he'll last too long around here.

Yes the ones at the center alter last a good hour,,side alter ones shorter...

Some of them actually last longer than the ceremony...

Yes, there are parts that are a little boring, but the couple can 'customize' the ceremony to their liking. However, it's limited. A certain number of prayers must be said, and whatever the priest says is usually boring. It's not too long though. They do try to keep it short.

EVERYTHING Catholic is big and drawn out...funerals,too. You'll cry tears of relief when the wedding is FINALLY over.
