The largest hailstone in U.S. history was just smaller than a soccer ball at 7 inches wide, and it fell on South-Central Nebraska in June of 2003. This is likely the largest hailstone ever documented, but it is also likely that some larger hailstones have fallen in other parts of the world or at other times that were not preserved to be measured and recorded.

I have heard basketball size before, but not having seen the hailstone of a picture of it I cannot truly confirm this.
