ideally some typ eof external hard drive that i could acces from anywhere in my house without it being tehterd to my laptop. i do not know if this is possible

There are external disk drives that plug into the USB port. You can get them in over a 100 gig sizes. If you have more modest wants, get one of those thumb-sized USB drives that go up to 2 gig and come with a keyring for portability.

Yes, for about $200 you can get an external hard drive that will hook to your wired network, and you can then access it through the wireless network.

It wont be nearly as fast as one attached directly, but it will work fine.

You can get a USB enclosure, OR go buy what is called a NAS (Network Attached Storage) the low end ones aren't that expensive. it plugs right into your switch or router, and any computer can access it.

There are "network storage devices" that attach to your hub/router that can be accessed from any location on your LAN (Local Area Network).
