If you are doing homework, you should probably know more about it. Well fission is when atoms separate (just like an atomic bomb), but fusion is the exact opposite. Its when lesser atoms combine to form greater atoms. All stars start out as a hydrogen and helium gas cloud. Eventually through gravity the gasses come together and form stars. The star burns hydrogen and helium producing Lithium, Beryl um, Boron, Carbon, Oxygen, Fluoride, and Neon all the way to Fermium. At that point the star explodes as it is incapable of producing enough heat to change Fermium into Cobalt. During the explosion the rest of the elements we have today are formed.
