I have had an ear infection for three days. My GP has just prescribed antibiotics, but they will take 2 days to kick in. I have pain across my jaw and the side of my head and a burning sensation. Is there anything I can purchase from my health food shop to alleviate the pain or soothe the eardrum in the meantime?

If you contact one of the homeopathic pharmacies, their pharmacist will advise you. Try phoning Weleda 0115 9448222

Belladonna would seem appropriate for you in this case, 'redness, heat and throbbing' it is used to alleviate. You should get this at a chemist.

I just got over a ear infection and swimmers ear...I went to the doctor got the drops and antibiotic. But, after three days I was still having the pain that I was before I'd even taken the meds. I called the nurse and she suggested I dilute vinegar with water (equal amounts) and let that sit in my ear for 3 minutes. I did it and it helped me a lot. She said that it balanced the PH in my ear canal? I don't know if it was that or if it was the medicine, but I think it worked! Earaches are a horrible thing to have and even though your child is normal during the day it may not mean that he is OK the worst pain is always at night, but when your entertained and doing something during the day it doesn't hurt as much. I would suggest either going to the doctor. If you do not have insurance you can go to a free clinic call around...there are some everywhere.

Try ear candling. I personally am wary of putting anything in my ear, but my neighbor used to do this for people and you would be amazed at the stuff that came out! They all swore by it. It's cheap, but you'll need someone to help you out.

Hope you feel better!

You can take paracetamol or better still ibuprofen( provided you have no contraindications.) Homeopaths take something and dilute is so much there is nothing left, then spay the water onto a sugar pill. They say the more dilute it is the more potent! Try this with your beer and see how long it takes you to get drunk!

Ear candling is a con, sorry. The stuff that comes out is from burning the candle, not stuff from inside your ear.
