If you were given a million dollars, with the rule that you cannot keep it, only do good with it.

I'd be really, really pissed off. Unless doing good included making myself happy. Then I'd pay off all my bills, and open a restaurant with the leftover money. I'd use the profits from folks who could pay to feed the people who couldn't.

Oh, wow. I'd have to really sit and think. I'm constantly giving little donations to whatever snags my heart, and I'm apparently on some "soft touch" list. The environment is Priority #1 to me--nothing else matters if we can't eat, breathe, or go outside--so I'd focus on that. But I'd also want to help starving people (perhaps by donating to Second Harvest), throwaway and runaway LGBT kids, the same-sex marriage movement, endangered species (I love pandas, penguins, and manatees) and people abused by "eminent domain" into having to leave their homes that supposedly aren't valuable so their neighborhood can get bought out by richer people. And I like the Fresh Air Fund, which sends underprivileged NYC children to camp for the summer so they can see something different and play out in the open in a safe place. And I respect the work that good zoos do. And...you see what I mean? :-)

i would put it into a travel fun for my friends & me...unless that counts as keeping it, if it does, then i'd just travel right off, w/my friends of course, first london, then france, italy, india, etc etc. i'd try to use it to spread awarness or somehow put an end to the genocide in Sudan, and if i had any left after that, i'd buy a nice house in london, and then start an international organization called 'Union for Humanity' that would have the objective of uniting all ppl of all backgrounds based on the fact that they are all human. ya that explanation was kinda bleh but im still half asleep so ya.
oh and then i'd open a bakery and become a pastry chef because everyone knows pastries make the world a happier place = )

Hello Wickey,

I am sorry but a million dollars is not enough for what I had in mind. It would not even be a drop in the bucket. But if I did receive a millon dollars to do only to do good with I think I would donate it in the name of a friend of mine that died of AIDS a number of years ago to the AIDS foundation for prevention education programs in schools through out the world.

If you had said $100 billion. or even a Trillion the world as it is would not care because they can't even answer the question WHY?

Tell Me Why?
In my dream children sing a song of love for every boy and girl
The sky is blue and fields are green and laughter is the language of the world
Then I wake and all I see is a world full of people in need

Tell me why (why) does it have to be like this?
Tell me why (why) is there something I have missed?
Tell me why (why) cos I don't understand.
When so many need somebody we don't give a helping hand.
Tell me why?

Everyday I ask myself what will I have to do to be a man?
Do I have to stand and fight to prove to everybody who I am?
Is that what my life is for to waste in a world full of war?

Tell me why (why) does it have to be like this?
Tell me why (why) is there something I have missed?
Tell me why (why) cos I don't understand.
When so many need somebody we don't give a helping hand.
Tell me why?

(children) tell me why? (declan) tell me why?
(children) tell me why? (declan) tell me why?
(together) just tell me why, why, why?

Tell me why (why) does it have to be like this?
Tell me why (why) is there something I have missed?
Tell me why (why) cos I don't understand.
When so many need somebody we don't give a helping hand.

Tell me why (why, why, does the tiger run)
Tell me why (why, why do we shoot the gun)
Tell me why (why, why do we never learn)
Can someone tell us why we let the forest burn?

(why, why do we say we care)
Tell me why (why, why do we stand and stare)
Tell me why (why, why do the dolphins cry)
Can some one tell us why we let the ocean die ?

(why, why if we're all the same)
tell me why (why, why do we pass the blame)
tell me why (why, why does it never end)
can some one tell us why we cannot just be friends?
WHY!! WHY!!

I'd give it to our local Free clinic -- Living Healthy -- which helps those without insurance; and which has made room on the rolls for me and other gay and lesbian spouses who fall through government "cracks" for health care. They're always running at a deficit but they always manage to get our medicine. It would be nice to give back more than just the kind word or the plate of cookies.

Although FTW's answer is very very good!(giggle)

I would invest it in a house just down the road from me and make it into a home from home for local kids from abusive or otherwise distressed lives. To try and make their worlds and futures a little brighter and give something back to my community at a local level.

I would do the following....

give my little sister a chance for good education (she is smart as hell)
then I would donate to foundation of Breast cancer.. Jeff's mother has Cancer and I would like to find a cure.
and I would give it to the Adoptions centers in the area.
and I would donate to the Gay and Lesbian center as well.

and there is a old lady I know that struggles with buying her medication and bills I would give her the rest...

that's a good question wickey thanks for that:)

put it in a trust and spend the dividends each year on a worthy cause. I would probably start close to home and look for some way to bring businesses into the rundown parts of town. Business brings jobs, jobs enable people to help themselves and feel good about who they are, everyone pays taxes and spends their money which helps even more.

Put it into an interest bearing high yield account and with the accrued interest I'd set up little scholarships and loan programs for people to better themselves. Eventually there would be enough moeny as people paid back their loans and interest kept building that the program could go national and eventually international.

I'd build a big LGBT youth center for Kids in Crisis, one where they could go to talk about issues or stay if coming out to their parents resulted in them being kicked out.
