DO NOT...I repeat....DO NOT attempt to uninstall or delete your Internet Explorer from your computer.
First of all, you need it to download your Windows Updates (have you been there lately?) and secondly, there are many sites that use ActiveX that only your IE will be able to visit.
I'm a BIG Firefox fan myself but, it's not unusual for me to need my IE on occasion.
On your Windows 2000, which version of IE are you running?
(open IE, then under Help in the menu bar, click About Internet Explorer for your version information).
If NOT v5.5, check out this link...

(Scroll down to Windows 2000 IE 5.5 Installation)

You cannot remove Internet Explorer - it is a part of Windows and remains on the computer. If it keeps saying it has a problem and needs to close, then you have spyware, or a browser hijacker. You might try cleaning up your computer before you try to remove software. Get all the updates from Microsoft that are still available for windows 2000 (if any) and keep IE. As one answerer said, there are websites that do not accept FireFox, so you may very well need IE. My bank does not accept FireFox, nor does my pharmacy, etc.

This is what I would do in your situation: Look at the exact error message by clicking on DETAILS when you recieve the error box. Go to www.microsoft.com to the knowledgebase and research your problem by typing in your error message there. There's usually good articles to help you out. If you haven't already done so, upgrade to Internet Explorer 7. Last option is to re-download Internet Explorer 6 and re-install it over your existing Internt Explorer. Hope this helps.

Delete what IE or FireFox. If it's IE just leave it alone and continue using Firefox. If you want to delete FireFox one question comes to mind WHY? FireFox is more secure than IE so I would use FireFox over IE any day.
