scratch your back on?

I once scratched my back on a brick column at work and this old lady said, "God bless the Duke of Argyle." When I asked her why she said that she said that back in the olden days the Duke of Argyle was responsible for the erecting of scratching posts around the town so that the the townsfolk would have somewhere to scratch themselves.... thus whenever someone scratches their back against anything.. he gets blessed!

I actually have a proper back scratcher - like a little plastic hand on the end of a bamboo cane. I keep it on a book shelf in my bedroom. If I didn't have that I'd probably use the newel post at the bottom of the staircase as a scratching post. Of course, nothing beats a human back scratcher .....!

my favorite part of the "house" is my wife. now i know that don't sound quite right, but she ain't around too often and when she is, i believe in the old adage "if you scratch mine, i'll scatch yours". when she isn't around, hell a cheese grater works. the edge of my plywood table top. anything, i suppose. sometimes i just let it ich and don't even bother to scratch it. i get forgetful.
