Digital Music copyright? If you had an MP3 that was downloaded it is illegal yes, ok so If the MP3 stream was reversed so that song played backwards. Is it still illegal?. At what point does the file become illegal. Surely the same goes if the MP3 was encrypted into a file, would it be illegal still because it is just a jumble of 0's and 1's until it gets decrypted.

Just a thought!

The file becomes illegal when it is an unauthorized copy of a copyrighted work, or an unauthorized derivative work made from a copyrighted work.

Whether it's code, music, played backwards or forwards doesn't matter.

if any versions mp3, mp4, videotape soundtrack etc was originally derived from a copyrighted source, then they are infringing if not created with permission. you cannot take copyright material and convert it to public domain simply by "resampling" it, just as retyping a Harry Potter book as a document file does not make it free to distribute.
