If you can find it, clear PVC cleaner.
There is primer, which is colored by plumbing code, so the inspector can see you've used it.
And there is PVC pipe cleaner, which I think is basically acetone.
Since we have to use primer by law, I haven't bought a can of cleaner in 25 years. I'm not sure if it's available.
You can also lightly sand it off.

The safest way is fine sand paper (80) grit and elbow gease.
If you want a shiny finish, use 200 grit or higher after the letter has been removed.
To be a little safer, use a dust mask. There are no toxic fumes this way.

The best way to clean a piece of PVC pipe so there is no lettering is to buy some clear PVC Primer. Apply the primer to the pipe and you will have nothing left except for the pipe itself. It will clean everything off the pipe.

Get an aerosol can of carburetor cleaner at your local auto parts store. Spray it on and wipe off with a dry rag.

Hello, I'd recommend a 'ooo' grade of steel wool, it's gentle enough to use on glass and it should not scratch. Rose

Any kind of solvent will work. Just make sure it doesn't melt plastic before you use it.
