shows him at peace with the world and generally contented. He was seen as the ultimate protest singer in the '60s. Does it seem strange to you to see a calm, chilled Dylan in his album 'Modern Times?'

Hi,

though I haven't heard the latest album by Bob Dylan, I understand it is certainly different from the stuff he did when he was a radical protest singer, young, struggling and angry with the world.

BUT...I can see how earning millions of dollars from one's music could, would and did affect his viewpoint.

Surely you don't want a would-be old aged pensioner ranting on about the unblanced way the world works, after all his (and my) generation have had half a century or more to 'cure' the world's ills and only seem to have created more.

In the 1970's we had the 'punk' revolution, nowadays the 'rap/R n B' revolution, all designed, as was Dylan, to extract as much money from us, as record/download buying consumers, as possible. Modern 'Rap' millionaires care far less about the government and its policies than they did when they started out.

Bob Dylan is no different. Many artists change as their careers progress, sometimes for the better, sometimes not (but that's all a matter of taste)

I think the general gist of the answer can be found in your comment that Dylan seems 'contented'.

He probably is. It's the same as the old 'Blues' adage...You can't sing the blues in a suit (unless you're old and black) You can't sing the blues because your luxury car has a scratch, or because you've got moss on your lawn, or because you are disappointed with the toilet paper in your new vice president suite at work after your promotion, or...well you get the picture?

Cheers,

BobSpain

Have been listening to Dylan since the 60's. He has always given us various "moods" with his music and, despite much social commentary, he hasn't been a "protest singer" in many years. In fact, according to him, he was never a "protest singer;" he was just a singer.

I think "Modern Times" is one of his best albums. I don't find it strange at all. He is older, so views the world in a different way than when he was 20. As always, he is expressing his current view of the world to us.

He always looked peaceful and cool,ok, even though he was radical, and not without reason. I would not care how he looked, love Dylan.
