i bought this thing that clips on the front and has a camera inside that views the screen but the picture is hazy

No. The PSP doesn't have any audio-video output to connect to the TV.

The newer version out later this year will be able to, it has a specific video-out port. The current one has nothing 'official' (i.e. from Sony) to do this yet.
