"Thank You" would be the phrase I would use, but as a single word, I would use "Hero." Most people just don't realize how hard it is to do what they do.

Brave and brainwashed at the same time.
Every generation of my family has been a serviceman since we have been in the US.
I repect them but believe they get used up for no good reason sometimes. My step-dad was a POW in WW11 and in Korea. He was a mindless mess after all of the things he went through.Not much help for him from the Vet groups. Sad...
