and pain at the bottom of my pelvis. This is my first pregnancy and over the last 2 days this pressure has gotton stronger. i lost my plug 2 1/2 weeks ago and i don't know what i should do. I don't want to bother my OB for nothing. i just can't sleep or get comfortable in any position. It will release for a little bit if i change position from lying down to standing but it comes back. The pain is also going down the joint where my hip and my pelvis are joined. What should I do?

I would try to rest and my doctor told me to get on my hands and knees and arch my back as much as I can like a cat. The gravity helps to release some of the pressure of the baby. It is completely normal, as you get further along the baby's head drops into the pelvis and for me it felt like it was going to break every time. As far as sleeping what I do is put a folded pillow under the back of my hips and it helps a little bit. Unfortunately there isn't much that you can do for that, the good news is it isn't too much longer until the baby's born!

First, your OB is there for you to 'bug' :) I dunno how many times I called mine with my first one :)

You're in that uncomfortable stage right now...I went thru it with both my summer babies...was worse than my 'spring chick'. The pressure is probably the baby moving down, or dropping. I had bad hip pains...and everything between my hips hurt.

I would say that what you are feeling is normal for this stage. If you start feeling tightness episodes or episodic, rhythmic cramping...that is likely labor beginning. Time the feelings. If you see a pattern, or they are becoming stronger and more intense, last longer at a time...then you should probably contact your OB for their recommendations as to how far apart contractions should be before you head to L&D.

Just try to rest, stay well hydrated. Perhaps a warm (not hot) pack on the outside of your hips will help...do not put the heat near your belly tho...can make the baby too warm with that extra heat. Warm baths and showers also helped with my joint discomfort.

Call your OB ANY TIME you have questions...with you being 38 weeks along, basically due at any time, they can see you in the office for a dilation check and baby position check, or if they feel it is necessary...send you on to the hospital for closer, longer monitoring of contractions.

Best wishes to you! your little angel will be here soon...and believe me...the discomfort you're in right now...it's all worth it when you see that little face for the first time :)

It could be a pelvic and joint thing (i can never remember the name of it) but your muscles and ligaments surrounding your joints are stretching and getting ready for baby and because baby is so low it is putting pressure on it also. It can get really painful (i finished work at 6mths due to the pain of it and I also lost my plug early about 2 1/2 weeks before baby born) but heat/cold packs help and lots of rest. BUT if this pain gets regular and/or comes in waves you could be in very early stages of labour. I think it would be best to phone OB and tell him this way he can tell you what to do or its advising him that he may be needed in the next day or 2 to deliver a baby!
Try propping pillows behind and inbetween your legs (to elevate them) when you go to sleep and get hubby to rub areas that are painful as I found this helped too.

Your doing too much.. i would try to rest as much as possible. I had this same issue a few weeks ago and i had to send my 15 month old to my inlaw's for 2 days so that i can rest and try too feel a little bit better because i didnt want to deliver another premature baby. Im now 36 weeks prego and the pain is better then it was.. at some point i could feel my bones crack down there.. its wasnt plesant at all. Here there is alot you can do. You can either rest and keep your baby longer inside of you or you can keep going tuffing out the pain and try doing something too help induce your labor naturally. here is a good link if you want to induce labor.

Your not bugging your OB for nothing your bugging them because you don't know and you want to know. I've been having the same pressure your talking about since about 36 weeks and it is normal. But, anytime you have a concern do not be ashamed to call your doctor. My doctor actually scolded me at my last appointment for not calling her immediatly when I have a question and waiting for my appointment.

Wait it out for regular contractions- sounds like your baby is VERY low, a good sign, but this sounds very normal.
