Sometimes I don't think before speaking. How do other people do this?

I guess it's generally a good idea to think before you speak, but even more important to think RIGHT before you speak. All the thinking in the world before you speak won't matter if it's wrong thinking.

Break this project down into manageable chunks. First learn to resist the impulse to talk. Just because you have thought about something isn't necessarily a reason to speak. When you feel that you have mastery over "your mouth", it's a simple matter to give yourself a chance to think before you open it.

Try to figure out in what kind of situations you speak without thinking. Arguments? Parties? Early morning before you are fully awake? Late at night when you are tired? Then make a particular effort to watch yourself at times like that. Try not to speak at all for a while, or make yourself wait a minute before talking. If someone asks you why you are taking so long to answer a question, just say "I'm thinking."

Take a deeeep breath: it helps! If you have the time, count up to 50, or more: while you are counting, your mind is doing the thinking! (And, a little known secret is, you don't always have to think before speaking! Most of the thinking has already been done, now what remains is only the speaking -- most of the time, it is so!)

Hi there,
Well we all have foot in mouth disease from time to time

I found the best rule is to breath slowly and deeply, just wait a few seconds to process the question, say something like need to get a glass of water, that gives you a minute or two to think.

Smile, then think "How would I like that put to me"?

Hope this helps

If your with a group of people ....let others answer first don't answer the question until you've answered it in your head first. It will be hard at first and you,ll see with time it gets easier. Now if your alone answering a question......well i agree with the other person.........take a deep breath......don't rush........speak slow and you allow to think before u speak ...good luck

Talk slowly and probably you will realize that you are about to speak something wrong and immediately change that... Or otherwise, just don't talk too much and listen more instead... :P
