I love opposite day. From the UK also. Opposite day used to be on Thursdays as I remember as a kid. But I believe it can be at random too.

Have you been watching spongebob?!

Opposite Day is a holiday celebrated by many schoolchildren, though often in an irregular fashion and not on any pre-determined day of the year. Typically, when Opposite Day is declared, statements always mean the opposite of what they say. In the sense that it would "excuse" untrue statements, it is related to the notion that crossed fingers automatically nullfy promises. Expressing the fact that it is currently Opposite Day is rather difficult, as "it's Opposite Day" is always a false statement, and "it isn't Opposite Day" is always true, assuming the participation of the speaker is required (one way around this is to state that opposite day will begin at the conclusion of the statement declaring it to be Opposite Day). Thus, the holiday can serve as a child's first introduction to the Liar paradox.

Opposite Day is celebrated by some people on January 25. but it may also be initiated by someone declaring it to begin.

Well, being a kid myself, I have seen several shows with the opposit day thig. But, other than tv, No one has ever told me of such a holiday. I live in the USA. I really don't think there is such a thing because it would be pointless and kinda retarded. Most of our holidays here have some sort of meaning from history. Like memorial day, where we honor the veterans from earlier wars and even soldiers of today.

I know what you're on about, and your kids much watch the same cartoons as mine, since they constantly go on about opposite day as well. Think it's from Spongbob Squarepants though.

Can't say I'd ever heard of anything like it before but there is some information on it here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opposite_Day

The opposite of tomorrow is today so opposite day is actually today.

Yes I do. My kids have that at school (in Wisconsin USA) once/year and they can dress backwards or girls like boys, you know. It's pretty silly and funny. I think some people do this at work for fun too.

I think the cartoons are a law unto themselves, I watch them with my great nephews, they are rolling about the floor laughing and I just sit there thinking right.

You just have to do or say the opposite of what's really happening!

Have I just answered a Q on Y!A? No, of course not.
