The yankees traded Scott Procter for third baseman.. and I stress third baseman Wilson betemit. You know who else plays third in ney york right? is this trade maybe a forshadowing of A-rods future, or lack thereof, with the yankees?

He will be their utility player, pinch hit maybe and give a-rod a day off now and then.

I think the Yankees made a fine choice of acquiring Wilson Betemit, because he can play 3B, 2B, SS, and OF and play 3B if A-Rod was to opt out of his contract. He is also one of the best left handed pinch-hitters around the league. But why give Proctor? I didn't understand why they would give up Proctor, because he is important to the bullpen. If the Yankees were to acquire Betemit, they should've gave Farnsworth, Sean Henn, or other players to the Dodgers.

What?

A-Rod KNOWS he is not going to be replaced by anybody at 3rd base.

Wilson Betemit is just a guy the Yankees needed so they can give A-Rod some rest.

P.S. I am SO happy we got rid of Procter.

That is what I thought too when I heard it. Follow me on this: I was thinking that the Yankees were thinking that Scott Boras and A-Rod were bluffing about leaving New York and/or not wanting to negotiate so they wanted to show him that he is not the "end all/be all" for this team by getting his potential replacement. I love the Yankees and although he has been great for us this year, i would not be worried if he left because we would still have Jeter, Cano, Damon, Matsui, Posoda (assuming he resigns), and a young group of pitchers that they are bringing up from Triple A in a few weeks.

Betemit is not replacing A-Rod. First of all, Betemit plays 3rd, 2nd, SS and he's even played OF. He'll be a utility man for them. A-Rod has to opt out of his contract in order for him to go anywhere, and I don't really see him doing that. Betemit knows A-Rod plays 3rd and that's how it'll stay. He'll just fill in here and there when needed.

Betemit has played 3rd, SS, 2nd, and OF in his career, hes somewhat like a Cairo with some power; I like the deal because Chamberlin is striking out almost 2 guys per inning in the minors; Hughes is coming back, and Karstens is healthy as well. You have to make room on the pitching staff somehow.

No. Wilson Betemit is not going to replace Arod. He'll be a utility player and a pinch hitter for the Yanks.

Of course not, Remember, A-Rod can opt out of his contract if he elects to do so but he still has four more years on the contract. If he elects to stay who would you rather have at third base? I believe that both A-Rod and the Yankees are maneuvering for position involving a new ten year contract that both sides would like to have.

I was sad to see Betemit go, because Nomar isn't that good at third base, and now he doesn't even have power. But we needed some relief help, plus Proctor can start sometimes.

He played 3rd for the Dodgers because the Dodgers don't have A-Rod. He'll play some third, some short, and some second. He'll be a big upgrade for the Yankee bench .
