How did they happen to come up with words that sound "heavenly". Is it learned and just drilled in by hearing & repetition. Or do these words actually have a certain power to them, as if the gods had created them themselves. If you believe in God, i'm sure God doesn't use words at all to describe him/her/it...as well as Heaven and Hell.

to clarify...The word "God" is basically a penultimate term, unless that is God has a better name that God wants to be called that we don't know about.

On the same note, but on the other hand, the word "s h i t" basically sounds like what it is, even though it isn't an epic name like Excalibur.

In modern days, I can say the name "Bo Derek" and thoughts rush into your mind, although the words are only a label of a mere human.

Just like how your first name seems like the only name you can ever think of calling yourself, or the feeling of trying to, but not being able to remember a time when your baby sister was a stranger to the family when she was born.

Were there other terms/names bounced around when they decided to stick with "Heaven" "God" "Zeus", "Satan" etc...

In response to C.M. , to the religious there is or was no other word instead of GOD, because God is God, and yet it was chosen. Also heaven is heaven and was never called anything else.

And yet, these "one and only, unique, created for one pupose/person". And these sacred words/names sound how sacred names should sound like.

I guess that's why the term "God-given" exists :D

In response to Trbld 1...Even though many cultures , even the ones that are "lost" and "long gone", with all their different languages and religions/gods/myths/heroes...those names still carry an intrinsic beauty within their respective language patterns and structures. So, if a word is a word is a word, did it take the same amount of time to come up with "s h i t" than the "God"?

Is it possible that these words seem heavenly to us because we associate heaven/paradise with them?

The mythos associated with Avalon is caked with magic. It was the faery, not the buzzing little bee tinkerbells that we think of now, but the Tuatha De Dannon, and the Good people that brought about Avalon. Avalon was a place of magic, where people were taught about the Goddess, and instructed in keeping faith.

They fit because your thinking inside the box. Take French lessons, everything sounds beautiful because they meant for it to sound that way. Notice there's an a in the middle of each word. Think that's by accident. No.

Say art to yourself over and over till it doesn't sound like a word. I did that once, it opened new doors for my mind. Its the same reason "regurgitation" sounds slightly painful tho. And Islam and Allah to some Americana's sounds like a terrorist plot yet to many it sounds like people describing their religion.

Plus the fact, Bird of Pardise is pretty... "shangri-la" was said over and over in the series "Kung fu, the legend continues", and avalon is the name of a nice shapoo/cosmetic line. I think it just about works. No ones going to name something "Allah Butter Nut Cream" ... Atleast not in the states.

the words dont fit; they are words you have grown up hearing and are used to their meaning.

Here's a relatively simple answer, one that avoids any mythology, religion, etc..

The fit because words that don't fit are quickly replaced or forgotten -- they don't stand out enough to survive into becoming common usage/acceptance.
