I was raised Catholic, was agnositc for a while, and now I've decided that religion has no place in my life and that I really don't believe in God, so now I consider myself to be an atheist. I won't judge others on their beliefs, but I just want mine to be respected. But some people just can't deal with the fact that I don't believe in God... argh!

I used to say things like, “How can God be a loving God AND still make you fear Him?” and “What loving being would force you to suffer for eternity?”
After I lost my religion, I grew very angry. Especially thinking about all those movies that scared the crap out of us about the end of the world! I felt that a loving God shouldn't have to frighten you to get you to love Him. And the heaven and hell that were described to me… well, neither were desirable! (I would either burn in hell or be bored to tears for all eternity!)
Until my cousin got me to pray, “If there is a God, prove it to me,” I no longer believed in God. But things happened that changed my mind drastically. I am not religious, but spiritual. Big, big difference. Now I Know there Is a God, but He is Not what so many think! (I use the term ‘He’ but I believe God is both. How could a man create something he doesn't understand, like women? And Vice Versa.) God is Not vengeful, people are! Karma is not a punishment, but a lesson.
I respect other's right to believe (or Not) in any God they choose... Buddha; I Am; Allah; God; Jehovah; The Universe... To cause someone loss and anguish just to be 'right' is a sad, selfish thing to do.
But for those who would say it is foolish to believe (like I would have), I challenge them to say the prayer “If there is a God, prove it to me.” I did it without belief, fear, or expectation. I do caution you, however. Some of us take a LOT of convincing. It could be quite intense. It certainly was with me. If you are truly convinced there is no God, however, there's no problem saying a ‘pointless’ prayer. After all, what's the worst that could happen? Nothing? On the other hand, it could change your life. You never know, unless you try.

I think there is some truth in all religions but none has it all. If I find what it true for me, that's all I need. And I don't think God has a lot to answer for - but rather the people, for what they have done with the opportunities given to them

i was raised in a very religious catholic home, even went to private school, but when i got older it just seemed that i questioned the religion so much that i just stopped going to church and just prayed at home like before bed. well about a month ago my grandma was at home and she and i spoke to eachother as we had always done and she said goodnite baby i will talk to u tomorrow, well later that nite my grandpa called me and said that the ambulance was rushing my grandma to the hospital, anyway to make a long story short she was very sick in ICU and had a less than 1% chance to live and i went to the chapel and prayed to God to save her and let her come back to us and miraculously she is alive and well, so now i go to church because i believe that he listens
