I really can't tell! I always wonder whom do I love more, my dad or my sweetheart. Till now, my dad has had the highest priority in my life and he still is. Even though, emotionally, I may be closer to my fiannce, because me and my dad never really talk about emotional stuff, we're both kinda awkward at that. May be if mom was here, things would've been different. But still, I guess there are certain things which you can share only with your life partner, but that won't make your parents any less important for you and vice versa. The bond you have with your parents will always be there, no matter where you are or what you're doing. Parents are guardian angels given to us by God... our life partner is an angel, who we find on our own (or in my case, who comes looking for us just at the right time!). Sorry, really can't choose! Can't weigh whether I love my dad more or my life partner.

I think it comes full circle. It starts with husband and wife bonding before the child is born. Then while the child is young, parents spend the majority of their time with their children and less with each other. Thus as the bond between parent and child grows, the bond between husband and wife dissipates. Then as the child grows up and leaves the nest, the bond weakens between parent and child, and the bond between husband and wife is renewed.

Marital bonds are a result of choice and understanding, where as the parental/child is usually genetic and naturally obliged. This is a good question and I think that the parental/child bond is stronger, because through it those that have married or will marry, see the whole picture of how each are treated, whereas the marital loses sight most often to the importance. Yet these are really in some ways incomparable, at least according to the times in which we live. Peace.

Hands down, between a parent (especially a mother) and a child!!! Reasons for this include bringing the child into the world, nurturing it, and being of the same blood line (blood is thicker than water)!

Both are close relationships and need attention and work from both parties, it easier for the child as they have fewer people to contend with earliy in their life. But spouses who work at it can have just as strong a bond if they desire.

At the current divorce rate, it has to be parent-child.
However, children benefit if the demonstrated bond between their parents is greater.
Go figure.
