I would say a small colorful fish would be a neon tetra, sailfin molly and a fancy guppy.

Hi, girlscout,
Everybody has their own favorite species of fish and I am no exception. =) You have received a few great suggestions from others and my suggestion will be Dwarf Gourami. These popular fish stay small. (2 inches-nose to tail) This means they will be healthy in all but the smallest of tanks. They will eat some types of algae from plants and glass. They are diverse, very colorful, and hardy. Like Betta, they can breathe open air from above the waters surface making them a bit unique from the majority of the fish world. They are very peaceful and tend to enjoy the upper half of the tank which is good because by staying nearer to the light lets you see clearly their vibrant color patterns. Take a look at the Dwarf Gourami here:

Hope this helps you!

The Beta comes in vibrant blue and red. They are beautiful fish with long flowing fins but since they are a fighting fish among themselves it is best not to have more than one in your tank. They usually don't bother other breeds of fish.

You should get a Betta Fish, they are bright and vibrant and you can get them in different shades of blue and red, also they are very easy to take care of. Check out this link to see how they look like:

You're talking about a sunset platy
You still could get them without breeding them, just get all males and you don't have to worry about babies
female

male

And they DON'T fight each other, they're peaceful tropical fish
There are even others of different colors
